Inflation: The Silent Destroyer
It’s in the news all the time these days. Inflation. We are all fighting the fact that our (copious) dollars are chasing too few products (supply chain issues anyone?) causing prices to spike.
The issue is that we pumped the economy full of money over the last two and a half years. There’s about $6,000,000,000,000 that the United States government just printed because they can. This is what’s driving prices up. We all got a bunch of money from the government to stay home, so many of us started shopping indiscriminately.
How does this affect the job of a county commissioner? In my estimation, we are staring a recession in the face, and I suspect it’s going to be a nasty one. We need to let the economy catch up to the money supply. We need to expand manufacturing capacity, and we need to be able to staff those jobs where things are made.
Michigan is known for making things. The creativity and ability of people here is amazing. Kent county makes amazing things, and as a commissioner I promise to champion the ingenuity and ability of the residents of Kent County.
